Literary Criticism

Literary criticism can be a useful tool for any writer. Literary criticism is primarily used during the revision of someone’s work. Throughout this process someone other than the writer will typically analyze the work and determine the strong and or weak points of ones work. This can be used to strengthen the work that is being analyzed by seeing possible errors or through seeing it in a different light, for example possibly seeing the topic from someone else’s perspective might strengthen your view or possibly even change your mind on the topic.

Although some may frown upon the attitude of literary criticism; some may see it as a negative view upon ones work, but it should be looked upon as a positive tool to use in writing. What some people tend to neglect is to truly take a step back and fully analyze their work, with whatever tools possible, especially because it may change your attitude towards your own work and cause you to want to change it for various reasons and in the long run better your own writing. One must remember though that this is simply a tool you can use and that this is simply advice and commentary on your work. In the end it is up to you to use your own discretion in whether or not you will use the advice and suggestions given to you and actually apply it to your work.

MLA Citation on New Journalism

The descriptive first person view in Wolfes book makes you feel like you're actually living in the moment. As Wolfe wrote, "My own husband - how could this be what they were talking about? Jane had heard the young men, Pete among them, talk about other young men who had “bought it” or “augered in” or “crunched”, but it had never been anyone they knew, no one in the squadron. And in any event, the way they talked about it, with such breezy slangy terminology, was the same way they talked about sports." (Wolfe 3)

Footnotes on Huxley

As stated in Huxley’s work “The Doors of Perception” he goes on to talk about how everyone should have a “chemical vacation”. I am a firm believer that everyone once in a while needs a vacation, I wouldn’t necessarily go on to say that someone should go on to use drugs such as mescaline or peyote but an alcoholic beverage once in a while doesn’t hurt. I'm sure many people can relate to Huxley in this aspect of relaxation due to the way American culture has become adapted, especially in such urban environments. As Huxley said, "But the need for frequent chemical vacations from intolerable selfhood and repulsive surroundings will undoubtedly remain", I myself can thoroughly agree with him on that.

Abstract

Running is bad for you. Although the American Heart Association says that running is good for your body and promotes high cardiovascular activity, there is a price to pay that comes along with this, and that is damage to your knees. In 1999 the National Runners Safety Institute recently conducted an experiment amongst eighty people concerning their daily running habits. Twenty people were assigned to run five miles a day for a month, twenty people were assigned to run three miles a day for a month another twenty people were told to run two miles a day for a month. The last group of twenty was told to run a mile every other day for a month.

In the following month, scientists surveyed the eighty people asking a series of questions regarding how their knees felt after their runs, during their runs and overall throughout the day before and after their workouts. The group that ran three to five miles a day complained about the most knee pain a month later, some reported tendonitis and others complained of a clicking and crunching sound while running. Scientists came to the conclusion that this was effected by the high impact on the knees for an extended period of time which would cause your cartilage to grind upon your knee cap. Thus causing such pain. It was also found that the people who ran two miles a day and a mile every other day had less complaints of knee injuries and pain in general.

Conclusion

Conclusive studies by the National Runners Safety Institute have come to find that less is actually more in this case. The less running you do in a week not only would suffice your cardiovascular health, but also spare your knees and prevent various injuries associated with the study.

Cubism, It's been neglected and misunderstood

Cubism is an art concept that was created by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. In the eyes of many people this artwork has been neglected and misunderstood. Many people feel that it is unimportant to the progress of other art concepts, but in reality it is the basis of many different art concepts. This movement inspired many other "cubists" throughout the years. Although some people don't realize how important this concept truly is they are sadly mistaken. Cubism influenced many other works such as Orphism, Precisionism, Futurism, Purism, Constructivism, and Expressionism. Even though writers neglect mentioning this in their articles about art, it is one of the forgotten important concepts from the early 1900's. Some artists feel that it is simply misunderstood and taken out of context.
